NYPD demands proof of vax for cops and spectators at graduation and promotion ceremonies

The NYPD will now require anyone aged 12 and over who wishes to attend a Police Academy graduation or promotion ceremony to present proof of at least one dose of vaccine, The Post has learned.

The restriction covers not only friends and family, but also the police officer who graduates or gets a promotion.

Unvaccinated members of the NYPD “will still be graduated or promoted if they cannot attend the ceremony,” said an internal department bulletin released Thursday.

The crackdown follows yet another new policy that unvaccinated cops face discipline if they don’t wear masks on duty.

The NYPD vaccination rate is 47%, the department said on Friday.

“Since the vaccines became available, we have encouraged our employees, especially those who are in contact with the public, to get vaccinated,” a spokesperson said. “We continue to make vaccines available multiple times and in multiple locations to ensure that as many of our employees as possible get vaccinated.”

A total of 60 NYPD agents and civilian employees have died from COVID-19.
