Although Tropical Storm Henri caused far less damage than expected as it passed through southeast Connecticut on Sunday afternoon, at least 8,000 people were still without power as of Monday morning.
Eversource reported at 8 a.m. Monday that 8,810 people were without power in the state, up from 22,228 statewide outages on Sunday night. At least 60% of the outages reported on Sunday night were restored overnight.
At a press conference on Sunday, Eversource president and chief operating officer Joe Nolan said the majority of customers will have their electricity restored by Monday evening.
The company originally reported that up to 70% of its 1.3 million customers could experience a loss of power due to Tropical Storm Henri and expected restores to take 8 to 21 days.
Groton was experiencing the most blackouts in the region, where 37 Eversource customers were still without power as of Monday morning. There were 17 reported outages in Waterford; 26 at Old Lyme; 17 in East Lyme; and less than 3 in New London, according to Eversource.
