People from across the Midwest flocked to Baldwin Airport over the weekend to celebrate the 9th annual Jet Pilot’s Boondoggle.

The event is hosted by the Lake County Modelers and Flyers Association. This gives jet enthusiasts a chance to bond around their love for airplanes, which fly and show off their remote-controlled jets.

“It’s a good stress reliever, it’s a different kind of stress. It’s fun, ”said jet enthusiast Chuck Mikowski. “The comrade with the guys. You can’t wait to see all the guys you only see once or twice a year… as much as flying the planes.

The event also gives spectators the chance to see the hard work of the pilot. Some jets at the event are even made from miniature jet engines and real jet fuel.

“It’s definitely a passion and a hobby,” said Timothy Jannereth, vice president of the Lake County Modelers and Flyers Association. “More like a passion. It just brings together pilots from all over who love the same thing as we do. ”
