Plumas County District Attorney David Hollister is warning residents to be wary during the rebuilding process and is providing a resource to ensure they can protect themselves.
“After disasters, unfortunately, some unscrupulous characters will go after those who need them most,” Hollister said. “One place we see these scams is from unlicensed contractors or others trying to commit fraud during the rebuilding phase. To help protect our community, I am working with the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) to assign a task force to Plumas County.
Members of this task force will be in Plumas County this week to post signs to help those affected by the fires avoid being victims of fraud during the reconstruction phase. Additionally, and in cooperation with the Plumas County Prosecutor’s Office, the CSLB has prepared a four-page leaflet that is incredibly informative to help residents understand their rights and avoid scams during the reconstruction phase.
In addition to Plumas News, this leaflet can be found on the DA webpage at https://www.plumascounty.us/1889/District-Attorney. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the DA office at 530-283-6303.
