Blue Star Moms tie yellow ribbons in a very public and appropriate place.
Several lampposts on the Hickory Street Veterans Memorial Bridge in Warren will wear yellow ribbons in support of those who have served and those who continue to serve in the United States Army.
“We wanted to show our support not only to our troops deployed in Afghanistan, but to all those who continue to defend us all over the world,” said Skyla Govier, president of the Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua section. “When people cross the Veterans Memorial Bridge, they not only remember the Veterans who sacrificed so much for each of us, but they also remember those who still fight for our freedom. “
City public works director Mike Holtz said the ribbons would be affixed to the eight poles that do not already carry banners honoring branches of the military over the next few days.
The Blue Star Mothers are mothers of active duty military personnel and veterans. Their mission is “Keep the memory of all the men and women who have served and sacrificed so much for our country”, said Govier. “We dedicate these yellow ribbons to all the brave men and women who step away from the comforts of their lives to defend our great nation.”
