Lake County News, California – The town of Clearlake to host the second annual soapbox derby race on September 11

CLEARLAKE, Calif .– On Saturday, September 11, the town of Clearlake will host the second annual Dam Road Extension Soap Box Derby Race.

City officials said the event would continue despite the recently contained Cache fire.

“I am more than delighted and proud to announce our second annual soapbox tournament,” said City Manager Alan Flora. “This year’s event will honor the lives of first responders lost on September 11, 2001. There will be fun for all ages and all levels of derby expertise. Make it a day of fun and watch the last summer concert that night at Austin Park. We are looking forward to a great summer final.

This race will again have three age categories. The “The Littles” division is between 7 and 12 years old, the “Turbo Teens” division is between 13 and 17 years old and the riders in the adult division are 18 years and over.

This event will also feature local suppliers.

The day will begin at 7:30 am with the inspection of the race, the national anthem of the Lower Lake High School Show Choir. Races for the “Littles” division will start at 10 am. Winners will receive a trophy, bragging rights and a nod to the infamous tradition of Indianapolis 500, a ceremonial drink of milk.

The Town of Clearlake would also like to thank those who participated in the Soap Box Workshop and allowed seven young racers to build their vehicles. A special thanks to Martin Snyder and Elvis Cook of the Clearlake Police Department for getting all parts of the vehicle ready and spending their day helping the racers build their vehicles.
