New images released in murder case against Aiden Fucci

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A new video was released Tuesday in the murder case against Aiden Fucci, the St. Johns County teenager accused of the grisly murder of his classmate Tristyn Bailey.

Images released as part of the discovery process include two surveillance video clips from Durbin Crossing, the subdivision where Fucci and Bailey lived, a video of the interior of Fucci’s house and several clips that were uploaded to Snapchat.

Fucci, 14, is in custody at Duval County Jail as he awaits trial for first degree murder in the murder of Bailey, whose body was found on Mother’s Day unless a mile from Fucci’s house.

The first piece of video is a two minute clip recorded from a neighbor’s house that shows two people walking along the sidewalk in the housing estate at around 12:15 am on May 9th. The second clip shows someone running alone in the opposite direction over an hour later. .

These clips appear to support the arrest warrant for Fucci, who said surveillance footage showed two people, believed to be teenagers, walking east on Saddlestone Drive in the early morning hours of May 9 before one of them were later seen heading west on the same street. .

A 16-minute clip appears to have been recorded on a surveillance camera inside Fucci’s home. At one point, the video shows a woman running upstairs and picking up clothes in a room, including a pair of jeans, before doing something to them off camera.

Fucci’s mother, Crystal Smith, is charged with tampering with evidence, a third degree felony, in connection with the case.

According to the prosecution documents, Smith is accused of washing his son’s blue jeans while being questioned about Bailey’s disappearance. Investigators said the jeans were positive for the presence of blood, despite efforts to clean them.

Other footage released includes three cell phone video clips. The first shows Fucci and a friend in the back of a patrol car. “Having fun in a (expletive) police car”, one can hear Fucci say. “What’s up guys? Tristyn, if you (expletive) quit the fucking…” before he paused.

The other two cell phone videos briefly show Fucci and the contents of a law enforcement officer safe, which contains a rifle and tactical equipment.

Bailey, 13, was reported missing by his family on May 9 before being found stabbed to death near a pond in the Durbin Crossing subdivision.

Fucci, who attended Patriot Oaks Academy with Bailey, was arrested a day later and is considered the sole suspect in his murder. Based on the circumstances of the case, Fucci will be tried as an adult.

The chief medical examiner ruled that Bailey’s death was a homicide caused by “brutal stab trauma”.

State Attorney RJ Larizza said the teenager had been stabbed 114 times. Larizza said 49 of the injuries were to Bailey’s hands, arm and head, and appeared “defensive in nature”. He said the tip of the knife used to kill her was found by the medical examiner inside her body.

“In the end, the premeditation could certainly be deduced from the sheer number of stab wounds Tristyn Bailey had to endure,” Larizza told reporters at a press conference in May.

The state attorney also said several witnesses said Fucci told people he was planning to kill someone by “taking him into the woods and stabbing him.”

“These are certainly the facts of this case,” added Larizza.

Investigators previously revealed that they recovered DNA evidence of Fucci from Bailey’s body. They also said Bailey’s DNA was found on shoes belonging to Fucci that were in his bedroom.

Witnesses also told investigators that the knife believed to be the murder weapon was identical to a knife Fucci carried.

Speaking to detectives, Fucci admitted walking with Bailey and arguing with her, according to the affidavit of his arrest warrant. The affidavit indicates that he admitted to having “forcibly pushed the victim to the ground, causing him to hit his head on the ground”.

The document says Fucci’s story has changed several times, but notes that he made multiple confessions.

Fucci and his mother are both scheduled to have preliminary hearings on September 1.
