PSD press release: COVID-19 update from the Ministry of Public Security

HONOLULU – COVID-19 tests are carried out around the clock in state prisons and prisons as well as at the Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona. The Department of Public Security (DSP) continues to encourage all staff and inmates to be voluntarily tested and vaccinated against COVID-19. The latest test updates received for correctional facilities are as follows:

Kauai Community Correctional Center – 59 results of the detainees’ tests: 15 positive, 44 negative. One (1) additional positive inmate is noted as having tested positive in the community prior to admission to the KCCC. 14 inmates have recovered, bringing the total number of active positive inmates to 35. One (1) positive staff test result was also reported.

Oahu Community Correctional Center – 17 inmate test results: 10 positive, seven (7) negative. One (1) positive staff test result was received and one (1) employee has recovered.

Halawa Correctional Institution – Three (3) inmate test results: Two (2) positive, one (1) negative. Two (2) positive staff test results.

Hawaii Community Correctional Center – Seven (7) negative results in inmate tests.
