We are delighted to see you again, Wolfpack!
After these separate months (and months and months), a proper welcome was long overdue. And North Carolina state students new and old have been through just that for Wolfpack Welcome Week: an annual event that kicks off the academic year and shows the best that our university has to offer.
From August 12 to 21, this year’s busy schedule includes more than 100 events and activities, so there was something for everyone, whether it was their first time on campus or their five hundredth.
Find out how the Wolfpack Welcome Week went:
Move in
From Thursday August 12 to Sunday August 15: Let the unboxing begin! The week began with dorms across campus opening their doors to welcome their last groups of dormitory residents.
Shower baskets, mattress protectors and red cabinets were on display as families and friends braved the heat to help the students settle into their new home. Even Chancellor Randy Woodson stopped to lend a hand.
Heritage Lunch
Saturday August 14: This Pack is deep, and our Alumni AssociationThe annual Legacy Luncheon is proof of that. The event invites incoming students and their former parents and grandparents to celebrate making NC State a family tradition with an outdoor barbecue.
In North Carolina court, parents of alumni proudly “pinned” new pack members with special pins – and the marching band conducted a catchy rendition of the alma mater and fight song.
Summons
Sunday August 15: The crown jewel of each Wolfpack Welcome Week is Convocation. This is the first time that the incoming class meets as a whole; they receive an introduction to the leadership and values of the university, and they pass on the beloved traditions of the state of North Carolina that they will carry with them throughout their lives.
This year’s convocation was twice the fun with separate ceremonies for the all-new Class of 2025 and the Returning Class of 2024.
Convening of new students
Freshmen flocked to North Carolina Court to hear welcome messages from community members, cheese for their class photo, and to receive their red and white tassels (we think they will come in handy someday .)
Second year convocation
Later that afternoon, we started all over again. The sophomores were greeted on campus in a convocation ceremony on Stafford Commons, where they recreated last years digital class photo – this time in person.
Back 2 School Jam
Wednesday August 18: Hosted by NC State’s Black student board, Back 2 School Jam is an annual celebration to welcome students of color to the Wolfpack. This year’s event provided an opportunity to explore campus resources, clubs and organizations, and it concluded with a presentation of the performance of various talent organizations on campus.
Respect the pack
Thursday August 19: The Wolfpack gathered in Talley Student Union for Respect the Pack, an event hosted by North Carolina State Student Government who advocates for diversity, equality and mutual respect for all members of the community in the State of North Carolina.
The 2021 program featured poet Nick Courmon as a guest speaker, as well as Chancellor Woodson and student government diversity outreach director Des Woods.
We are all bound together in one garment towards one destiny.
Students, faculty and staff have come together to make their mark – and commit to respect and unity – by signing a banner and putting their handprints on a mural at the Free Speech Tunnel .
RecFest
Saturday August 21: North Carolina State Wellness and Recreation closed the festivities with RecFest: an event that showcases all the ways students can lead active campus lives – from participating in club sports to renting fitness equipment. Attendees gathered at Miller Fields to enjoy an energetic evening of gifts, games, food and other entertainment.
