LIBRARY NEWS: Lake Placid Public Library Prepares For Fall Programs | News, Sports, Jobs

What a busy summer we had at the Lake Placid Public Library.

The children’s summer program, for example, saw many families take advantage of the Grab and Go activity bags, which included materials for creating diaries, underwater characters, puppets, and puppet theaters.

Many customers and visitors enjoyed the StoryWalks at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site as well as the Watershed Wonders program, where you got to explore the pond and all the results of the rain / snow runoff. Participants were able to follow the story of Kate Messner’s children’s book, “Above and under the pond,” as they walked on the path around the site.

With the children returning to school, the library is preparing for some fall programs.

In September, library director Bambi Pedu and children’s librarian Ms Armstrong bring Thursdays home from school, which were interrupted during the COVID-19 shutdown.

The schedule will look like this: Family welcome from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Thursday of each month to help with the selection of books, research projects, etc. Programs are at 10 a.m. on the last Thursday of each month in the backyard library with an indoor backup location to be announced soon. Masks (inside) and social distancing are required.

For homeschool Thursday updates, email [email protected].

Ms. Linda’s Story Time continues to entertain preschoolers and others who join the Zoom every Friday morning at 10:30 am. A few weeks ago, Ms Linda put on a puppet show about a grumpy dragon and a princess, and last week she told the story of a very mischievous kitten named Bernie. The audience enjoyed both of these humorous stories and, as usual, there is always a happy ending. If anyone is interested in joining the storytime group, please email [email protected].

On September 1, the library will operate with new fall / winter hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 6 pm; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We invite our customers and visitors to come and check out any new books that have been added to the collection or give us a call and we can help you with a selection of books.

Masks are required at this time.
