Alabama has moved on from its victory over Miami and launches on Mercer. The FCS team just won a 69-0 victory over Point University, an NAIA school. We’ll have all updates once the Zoom press conference starts at noon.
– Saban said he liked the sense of urgency with which Alabama opened the game. He didn’t like the way “outside factors” impacted the way they played after half-time. Much more mental errors and penalties after half-time.
– There was a lot to learn from what happened after half-time.
–Saban said they were eager to return home to a “packed house” at Bryant-Denny Stadium this week.
– “It’s a different kind of offensive team,” Saban said of Mercer. They use a Wishbone, Wing-T style attack.
– Saban said Mercer had good players “relative to their level”.
– Regarding Christopher Allen, Saban said his injury required surgery and he is likely out for the year.
– Saban said he was encouraged by Darian Dalcourt and Chris Owens on the offensive line.
– Saban said they liked the way the blocking of the race went on Saturday, but didn’t like the three times they put the ball on the turf (although he said that Bryce Young’s fumble was not necessarily his fault).
– On Trey Sanders, Saban said there were times he and Sanders wondered if he would ever come back after his injuries in the wreckage of the car, but he succeeded.
