Since the launch of the first HCW in Chhattisgarh by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April last year, a total of 10,252 HCWs have been commissioned. However, nearly 50 percent of these centers are located in only five states – Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala, according to government data.
Andhra Pradesh has commissioned 1,361 HRCs, Tamil Nadu 1,318, UP 912, Karnataka 700 and Kerala 678. In addition, with nearly 10,000 such centers, the government has not yet been able to do so. has still not achieved its goal of creating 15,000 heating and recreation centers in 2018-2019. The government plans to create another 25,000 centers next year. The government aims to establish 1.53 lakh HWCs by 2022.
This makes sense, as preventive care is one of the government's health priorities. In addition to immunization coverage, the government has sought free door-to-door testing for noncommunicable diseases because of its rapidly increasing incidence and late diagnosis resulting in high mortality.
The data show that more than 1.30 crore of people were screened for hypertension, 97.78 lakh were screened for diabetes, while 71.85 lakh were screened for oral cancer. For breast and cervical cancers, 16.67 lakh and 12.26 lakh were tested, respectively.
