Riverside in Chardon
What: Western Reserve Conference Game
When: 7 p.m., Sept. 10
Or: Memorial field
Recordings: Riverside 2-1, Chardon 3-0
Last week: Riverside def. Saint Nom, 28-7, Thistle def. Youngstown Ursuline, 36-27
For memory: Each week of the WRC program has one colossal showdown, and this is one of them. Thistle has won an impressive three in a row – Glenville, Akron Buchtel and Youngstown Ursuline – while Riverside have won back-to-back wins after a season opener loss to Perry. … Chardon took a 33-0 lead last week against the Ursulines, in large part thanks to the capitalization of turnovers. Quarterback Alex Henry scored three times last week, and the full-back team – led by senior Sean Carr – can wear teams down. The Hilltoppers rely heavily on the physique of the offensive and defensive lines to wear down teams. … Riverside is relatively inexperienced this year, but has grown every week. Dom Tromba (238 rushing yards) is a consistent leader on both sides of the ball. Chardon gave up plenty of yards on assists last week, something Riverside could try to exploit. But it will come down to the lines – can the Beavers hold the fort in the trenches to bring down the Hilltoppers? … This is the 60th meeting. Thistle leads, 31-27-1, including six of the last seven.
