Weatherly, who played for Minnesota from 2016 to 2019 before spending last year with Carolina, signed a one-year, $ 2 million contract with a $ 500,000 signing bonus in March. He also had incentives in his contract worth up to $ 500,000 for the bags.
Weatherly has agreed to see his base salary drop from $ 2 million to $ 1.5 million. With the bag incentives now in Weatherly’s contract, he could earn an additional $ 250,000 with two bags or up to $ 1 million with eight bags. The Vikings announced in June that former star defensive tackle Kevin Williams will be named to the team’s ring of honor this season. Williams said the induction will take place at halftime of the Oct. 3 game against Cleveland at US Bank Stadium.
“I’m pretty excited,” he said. “I still haven’t put my head around this. I didn’t play for honors and all that. I just wanted to release a good product and win a few games. “
Williams, who played for the Vikings from 2003 to 2013, said he was surprised to be named to the Ring of Honor so soon after leaving the team.
“I’m still a little bit in shock,” he said. “I thought it could happen, but maybe not so fast because there are a lot of great Viking players who have been there.”
Williams is in his first season as a volunteer assistant defensive coach for Little Rock Central High School in his native Arkansas.
“I see if I want to do it,” he said of entering training.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced that 2020 inductee Steve Hutchinson, whose dedication was postponed for a year to last month due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be presented with his Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence in games this fall in Seattle and Minnesota.
Hutchinson, a goalie who played with the Seahawks from 2001 to 2005 and with the Vikings from 2006 to 2011, will be honored in Seattle on October 7 against the Los Angeles Rams and in Minnesota on October 31 against Dallas. Hutchinson ended his career with Tennessee in 2012.
