One hundred and fifteen new cases of COVID-19 were treated and confirmed in Humboldt County today, bringing the total number of residents who tested positive to 7,693.

Two new hospitalizations were also reported, including a resident in her fifties and one in her sixties.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr Ian Hoffman announced on Wednesday that due to staff limitations, Public Health will be shifting its resources from community-wide contact tracing to locations with most vulnerable populations and with a greater ability to control the spread of the virus through vaccination, masking, distancing and ventilation. These include schools, long-term care facilities, shelters and other community living environments.

As of Monday, September 20, Public Health will no longer call all residents who test positive for COVID-19. Instead, those who test positive will receive a text or email from CalCONNECT, the state’s virtual contact tracing system. The message will include a link to a contact tracing survey as well as isolation instructions.

Anyone identified as a close contact of someone known to have COVID-19 should follow quarantine guidelines. Learn more about isolation and quarantine and access home care resources at humboldtgov.org/blanketorders.

COVID-19 vaccines are available at public health clinics located in the county. Walk-in people are welcome, or appointments can be made in advance at MyTurn.ca.gov. For instructions in English or Spanish on using My Turn, visit humboldtgov.org/VaccineInfo.
