Mu variant of COVID-19 confirmed in Jamaica | Stories of lead

Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has reported that the Mu variant of COVID-19 is found in Jamaica.

According to the minister, out of 90 samples tested, 26 were positive for the variant.

He was speaking recently at the COVID Conversation weekly press conference.

Chief medical officer Dr Jaquiline Bisasor McKenzie said the samples were sent to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta on August 21 for testing.

The results were received today.

Another 55 samples were positive for the Delta variant.

The revelation means Jamaica has now confirmed two virulent strains of COVID in two months.

In recent months, the Delta variant has been confirmed.
