ELKINS – The Elkins Middle School volleyball team opened the season with a straight set victory over Buckhannon-Upshur on Thursday night.

The Lady Hornets won the opening set, 25-16, before the Little Lady Bucs took a 25-19 victory to force a decisive third set, which was won by the hosts by a score of 25-17.

Jayla Reams, Hannah Currence and Aubrey Currence led the service effort for Elkins.

Maddy Zirkle added three kills.

“I thought both teams played well and it was played in the third set” Lady Hornets coach Bobby Reams said. “I was very proud of the way the girls played.”

B-UMS won the junior varsity match by scores of 25-17 and 25-14.

“Our JV teams also played very hard but were a bit short”, Rames said.

Elkins will stay home at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to face Taylor County.
