Night shoots

Officers were called to broken down person report in the 900 block of North 26th Street Thursday at 6:38 p.m.

There, the police found a man with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crime Detective G. Russell at (804) 646-7715 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

Richmond Police are investigating a shooting after a man was found shot dead inside a vehicle.

Police say the man was found around 11:30 p.m. near Brookland Park Boulevard.

Once there, they determined that the shooting took place near Dill Acres.

The man is in critical condition, but police say they have not determined how he moved from location to location.

President Biden announces mandates for vaccines

President Joe Biden ordered Thursday new federal vaccine requirements for as many as 100 million Americans in a total effort to ramp up COVID-19 vaccinations and curb the burgeoning delta variant.

“We have been patient. But our patience is running out and your refusal has cost us all, ”he said, biting his words. The unvaccinated minority “can cause a lot of damage, and they are.”

Expansive rules mandate that all employers with more than 100 workers require that they be vaccinated or tested for the virus every week, affecting an estimated 80 million Americans.

And the roughly 17 million workers in healthcare facilities who receive federal Medicare or Medicaid will also need to be fully immunized.

Search for time capsules

The crews suspended their look for a time capsule which was placed inside the pedestal of the statue of Lee over 130 years ago.

What had to be a quick process, resulting in the tedious removal of the hundred-year-old pieces of granite.

According to Richmond reporter Dale Brumfield, who has done extensive research on this time capsule and is working with the Virginia Department of General Services on its recovery, the time capsule is believed to have been placed in the Northeast Cornerstone by tradition. masonic.

A metal detector was used to scan the area for objects, but was unsuccessful.

AP Hill Statue

Richmond City Council to discuss move the AP Hill monument as well as the remains of AP Hill, which are found inside the monument.

City Council will take action to move the remains and monument to Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper at the request of the descendants of AP Hill.

Officials said legislation regarding the monument would no longer be presented on September 13, but likely at a later date in September.

The AP Hill statue is the only Confederate statue still standing in Richmond.

WTC steel beam on display

Saturday will mark 20 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of thousands of Americans.

Now a piece of history recovered from this tragedy is exhibited at Henrico for anyone to see. It was recovered from the World Trade Center.

The thousand pound steel beam made its way to the Richmond Raceway on Thursday.

Organizers say it’s not just about remembering history, but teaching it to those who weren’t even born in 2001.

Cadets plant thousands of flags for 9/11

A group of Junior ROTC Navy Cadets from James River High were not even alive when the towers fell, but on Thursday they wanted to make sure those who lost their lives were never forgotten.

They searched dozens of spray paint cans and thousands of flags to complete a memorial to the 2,977 lives lost 20 years ago.

These students smashed every marker, drilled every hole, and planted every flag with a promise they would never forget.

This is the second year the school has been planting flags outside Mission BBQ on Midlothian Turnpike.

Other events of September 11

Several events are organized around central Virginia to remember the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Chesterfield County schools will hold a ceremony on Friday, September 10 at 8:30 am During the ceremony, a new Freedom Flag Foundation exhibit will be unveiled.

Friday September 10, New KentFirst responders will hold the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on the steps of the New Kent County Courthouse.

September 10, Virginia War Memorial will host a virtual event from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The event is titled Online Eyewitness to History: September 11, 2001. It features Clarence Singleton, a retired US Marine and Veteran from the Vietnam War and Purple Heart recipient who was at Twin Towers that day as a retired member of the New York City Fire Department. Howl-O-Scream returns

It might be hot now, but soon the scent of pumpkin spice will fill the air as the calendar moves into fall and September. Howl-O-Scream is back at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.

The event takes place on select nights from September 10 to October 31. There will be three new haunted houses, two new “terror-tories”, two news shows and two new party zones.
