INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man has been convicted of murdering a woman and abducting a child, according to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

Tyree Henning was found guilty of several counts related to the murder of Yana Orr in April 2020.

According to the prosecutor’s office, on April 4, 2020, Henning’s girlfriend drove him and his two daughters to Indianapolis.

As they approached Indianapolis, Henning started arguing and threatening his girlfriend.

During a gas stop in the East 21st Street and Shadeland Avenue neighborhood, Henning’s girlfriend called her sister, Orr, to pick her up and her daughters due to threats from Henning.

After Orr arrived, the prosecutor’s office said, his sister began transferring car seats to Orr’s car. However, at one point during this process, Henning, who was sitting inside his girlfriend’s vehicle, approached, pointed a gun at Orr, and shot Orr.

After the shooting, Henning fled the scene in his girlfriend’s vehicle with his one-year-old still in the backseat, crashing into vehicles within a mile of the deadly shooting.

In addition to the murder, Henning was convicted of kidnapping, theft resulting in serious injury and leaving the scene of an accident.

Henning is currently expected to be sentenced on September 24.
