Former National Security Officials Regret Trump's Emergency Proclamation at the Border

A bipartisan group of 58 former senior national security officials plans to make a statement on Monday reprimanding the country's emergency declaration, President Donald Trump, for building a wall on the southern border of the United States, according to the statement. Washington Post.

They plan to say that there is "no factual basis" for Trump's proclamation.

"No plausible evidence of the evidence indicates that there is today a national emergency that empowers the President to tap into funds earmarked for other purposes to build a wall at." the southern border, "the statement said, according to The Post.

Signatories to the letter include Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of Defense for President Bill Clinton; Chuck Hagel, former Secretary of Defense of President Barack Obama; Eliot Cohen, State Department Advisor to President George W. Bush; John Kerry, the second secretary of state who served under Obama; Susan Rice, Obama National Security Advisor; and Leon Panetta, who was director of the CIA and secretary of defense under Obama.

They point out in their letter that the illegal crossing of the border has almost reached its lowest level in 40 years, that there is no terrorist crisis or violent crime at the border and that there is no such thing as a border crossing. It is unlikely that a wall will prevent drug flow because "the overwhelming majority of opioids" by legal entry points, according to The Post.

On Tuesday, the House will vote on a resolution presented by Texas Democrat Representative Joaquin Castro that would end the declaration of national emergency.

Trump 's emergency declaration has ventured into a new territory to bypass Congress and redirect military funding for other purposes to the border wall.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer called the statement illegal.
