Coronavirus death toll in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties surpasses 10,000

Dallas County reported 16 more deaths from COVID-19 and 1,582 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday.

The total death toll in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties has now exceeded 10,000. The 10,006 deaths in those four counties account for nearly 20% of the state’s toll from COVID-19.

One of the last casualties in Dallas County was an infant, health officials said. Although young people have had fewer severe cases of COVID-19 throughout the pandemic, the recent increase in cases – fueled primarily by the highly contagious delta variant – has resulted in more hospitalizations than previous waves in children, many of whom cannot yet be vaccinated.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, supported by the White House vaccination campaign on Friday, continued to urge residents to get vaccinated against the virus.

“Don’t expect anything. Get vaccinated and let’s leave it behind, ”he said.

Dallas County

Of the new cases, 1,328 were confirmed and 254 were probable. The figures bring the county’s total cases to 366,278, of which 312,644 are confirmed and 53,634 probable. The death toll is 4,423.

The average number of daily new cases in the county over the past two weeks is 1,323. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 1,253.

The county reported 1,040 people have been hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 1,511,883 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,266,437 – 58.1% of the county’s population aged 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

Texas

Statewide, an additional 24,059 cases were reported on Friday, including 23,706 new cases and 353 older cases recently reported by labs.

The state also reported 400 deaths from COVID-19, bringing its toll to 58,332.

Of the new cases, 19,486 were confirmed and 4,220 were probable. Of the oldest cases, 178 were confirmed and 175 were probable.

The state’s total cases now stand at 3,787,220, of which 3,176,127 are confirmed and 611,093 probable.

There are a total of 13,422 hospitalizations in the state, including 3,607 in North Texas.

According to the state, 16,750,800 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 14,098,735 – 58.6% of the state’s population aged 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 18 deaths and 1,880 cases on Friday.

Of the new cases, 1,388 were confirmed and 492 were probable. The figures bring the county’s total cases to 319,204, of which 265,790 are confirmed and 53,414 probable. The death toll is 3,980.

The county reported that 1,163 people have been hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 1,126,472 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 973,449 – 56.0% of the county’s population aged 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state added five deaths and 480 cases to the Collin County totals on Friday.

Of the new cases, 345 were confirmed and 135 were probable. The figures bring the county’s total cases to 116,337, of which 95,295 are confirmed and 21,042 probable. The death toll is 936.

The county reported that 504 people have been hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 667,434 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 586,720 – 67.8% of the county’s population aged 12 and older – are fully vaccinated .

Denton County

Denton County reported 464 cases on Friday. No additional deaths were reported.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s total cases to 93,227, with 68,047 confirmed and 25,180 probable. The death toll is 667.

The county reported that 213 people have been hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 522,224 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 463,976 – 61.8% of the county’s population aged 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

The Texas Department of State Health Services took over the reports for these other North Texas counties. In some countries, new data may not be communicated every day.

The latest numbers are:

• Rockwall County: 15,337 cases (12,051 confirmed and 3,286 probable), 184 deaths.
• Kaufman County: 21,048 cases (17,108 confirmed and 3,940 probable), 327 deaths.
• Ellis County: 29,041 cases (23,389 confirmed and 5,652 probable), 366 deaths.
• Johnson County: 24,348 cases (20,206 confirmed and 4,142 probable), 433 deaths.
