The official end of summer was last weekend, but this weekend could be among the busiest since the pandemic on the east coast and the weather is shaping up to be perfect.
There are two big garage sales this weekend. The Town of Saxis will be holding its annual citywide garage sale starting at 7:00 a.m. Until 1 p.m. The event will also feature local artists, sculptors and authors as well as more than forty participants.
On the other side of the shore, the village of Smith’s Beach will have its village-wide garage sale. This event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Eastern Shore Master Gardeners will have their annual plant sale at the Blue Crow Antique Mall Rt. 13 at Peintre. The sale will feature plants donated by local nurseries and will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
A special ceremony in memory of the victims of September 11 will be held today at 11 a.m. at George N. McMath Park in Onley. It will be a non-denominational event with the participation of several local pastors. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
Foodies will love ARC / Onancock Rotary Fish Fry. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Edwards Seafood in Onley. Tickets can be purchased at the door. The menu includes Rob Bloxom’s barbecue chicken, fried fish, baked beans from Butch Williamson and Matt Clay, coleslaw, a bun, and bottled water, all for just $ 10. This year’s fish fry is a driving event.
The Relay For Life 2021 event will take place today from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. outside Nandua High School. The event will feature the display of light fixtures after sunset. There will be games and activities and will include Relay For Life cakes and ice cream from the Island Creamery. Luminaria can be purchased during the event.
To celebrate the Arts, ESO Fest will take place today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at ESO in Belle Haven. The event will feature live music and food from Blackfin and Mt. Nebo Meats.
The US Air Force Jazz Band will present a free concert tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Central Park in Cape Charles. Come hear this special group of very talented musicians.
A two-stage suborbital sounding rocket is due to take off from NASA’s Wallops flight facility on Saturday for the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. The Terrier-Improved Malemute rocket is scheduled to launch between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on September 11.
