MONMOUTH – Ashland junior Nathan Stein stood out in the high performance cross country competition on Saturday, placing 13th to be Rogue Valley’s top finalist at the Ash Creek XC Festival.

Stein completed the 5,000-meter Ash Creek Preserve course in 15 minutes and 44.20 seconds.

Tualatin senior Caleb Lakeman was the best in the boys with a time of 14: 58.50, followed by Jesuit junior Jacob Nenow (15: 07.20).

Phoenix senior Elwood Hosking kept pace with his team finishing 41st in 16: 32.60 as the Pirates finished 24th as a team.

In other local brands, Ashland senior Luke Seeley was 64th (17: 15.00) and junior Finley Taylor was 95th (17: 55.60).

Ashland’s women’s team placed 11th out of 23 teams and Phoenix 17th.

Ashland senior Grace Yaconelli set the pace for the local girls finishing 30th in 19: 59.10, with Phoenix stars Sophia Stubblefield (38th, 20: 12.20) and Kyla Potratz (46th, 20: 26.70) not far behind.

Ashland’s Annika Wells (73rd, 21: 31.80) also did well for the Grizzlies.

Senior Jesuit Chloe Foerster was the best among the girls in 17: 24.50.

ASHLAND 3, WILLAMETTE 0: In Ashland, senior Amelia Evans paced Ashland with 14 kills as the Grizzlies claimed a straight set victory over Midwestern League foe Willamette at Mountain Avenue Gym, 25-14, 25-17, 25 -13.

Junior outside forward Cameron Christian recorded seven assists and 11 digs for the Grizzlies (3-1 MWL). Evans also had a pair of blocks, while senior Harper Wells added six aces.

In his three wins this season, Ashland has yet to lose a set.
