Local agencies challenge each other to participate in 5k fundraiser

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Local agencies challenge themselves to join a 5K to support a local nonprofit.

CASA of South Central Kentucky will hold its 7^e Annual Superhero 5K on Saturday, September 25.

On Monday, Matt Edwards of the Bowling Green Police Department launched a stunt prompting Bowling Green Firefighters to enter the upcoming CASA Superhero 5K.

“Chief Brooks, we ask you to bring your biggest group of superhero runners and pass this challenge on to others and help us change a child’s story,” Edwards said.

Bowling Green Fire Chief Jason Brooks responded today in an exclusive interview with News 40 and has accepted and extended this challenge.

“We accept this challenge and bring our superhero team together not only to show up, but to run with the Bowling Green Police Department and with that not only do we except this challenge, but we are here today to deliver. a challenge to the sheriff. Hightower, you are on the bridge. Warren County Sheriff’s Office, we challenge you, ”Brooks said.

CASA works as an advocate for children who have been abused, many of whom grew up in atypical family circumstances, just like Superman, who was adopted. Spiderman was raised by his aunt and uncle. Batman was raised by his butler.

“A fun little competition between us and the fire department and other county agencies to raise money for CASA which works to help support neglected children, abuse children and things like that, so this is a great way to us to have a little fun but also to help an agency that is doing great things, ”said Edwards.

“When you put into perspective what they went through, that’s the least we can do, so we plan to come forward to help raise funds to help raise awareness for these kids because there are kids in there. our community and that’s what we’re here for. Brooks said.
