All three of Valencia County volleyball teams competed in the Santa Fe Champions Tournament last weekend, hosted by Santa Fe High School.

Belen played two games in Santa Fe, losing both. The Eagles, who started their season last Tuesday with a loss to Espanola Valley at home, lost in straight sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 to St. Michael’s in their first game of the tournament.

Belen was then unable to defeat enemy District Grants in the second and final game of the tournament, losing 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-12) to the Pirates.

The loss sent the Eagles down to 0-3 during the season as the team remain in search of their first win under new coach Victoria Spragg.

BHS was scheduled to face Taos on Tuesday, but the Tigers called the game off after being unable to find transportation.

The Eagles will be back on the pitch on Saturday, September 18 at 12:30 p.m. when the team host Rio Grande.

This will be Belen’s last home game before the District begins on Tuesday, October 5.
