Valley News – Woman in Windsor home fire taken to Boston hospital; husband should be released from treatment

The elderly occupant who suffered severe smoke inhalations when her Windsor home caught fire on Friday was classified in critical condition at a Boston hospital on Saturday, the third hospital she was taken to after firefighters had her rescued through the living room window of her burning house.

Suzanne Skuja, 75, was first taken to Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Medical Center, then transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. Later Friday evening, she was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Massachusetts capital, her brother Donald Taylor said.

A spokesperson for Brigham and Women’s Hospital said on Saturday afternoon that Skuja was listed in critical condition on the hospital’s main campus in Boston.

Skuja’s husband Uldis Skuja was taken to Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor for smoke inhalation. He was due to be released on Saturday, according to Donald Taylor, brother of Susan Skuja, with whom he co-owns the destroyed house.

Brigham and Women’s Hospital has a burn center that also treats smoke inhalation victims.
