A celebration of life service was held for the late Marine Corporal Hunter Lopez. Lopez’s friends and family took the time to remember and honor the life he lived.
“Before becoming a Marine, Hunter was the son of Alicia and Herman. He was the brother of Owen and Trinity. A friend of many, a student, an Explorer Scout Captain of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department “said Lt. Tim of the Sheriff’s Department. Brause.
Lopez grew up with a love for everything, Star Wars.
“I think he chose the Marine Corps because he couldn’t find a recruiting office for aspiring Jedi Knights. We all know the Marines are strong in the force, and that was his second choice.” , said Brause.
One of his uncles, Juan Carlos Lopez, says Corporal Lopez knew from a young age that he wanted to become a navy.
“I could see the glimmer of happiness of him just ready to go out and do whatever he wanted to do. Since he was about 10 or 11, he’s always had a plan and he executed it. always did what he said he was going to do, ”said Carlos Lopez.
He has always been determined to put others above himself.
“He was the kind of friend you always wanted by your side. He was the kind of friend who would do anything for you. I can’t tell you how many times he grabbed me Matt by shoulders, he was telling us, he takes a bullet for us, “said his childhood friend Nick Conoway. “And we always laughed when he said that. Not because we didn’t believe him. But just because we couldn’t take him seriously. But we know he really meant it.”
Lopez reportedly rescued two young girls at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. This rescue would mark the last heroic moment in Corporal Lopez’s life. In his short life, Lopez devoted himself to service.
“He idolized men who sacrificed for others and these huge, high caliber men. I don’t think Hunter realized that he had become that and that his heroes would become his peers,” said Marine Michael Chambers. .
Corporal Lopez’s heroic legacy lives on in every heart he touched. Teach the ultimate lesson in bravery and courage.
“It is our duty as friends, family and community to continue this for him. Live fearlessly in his honor, do not hold back,” Lance Corporal Julian Valles said. “Don’t doubt what Hunter wouldn’t have wanted. Live the life you told Hunter you were going to live. Achieve the goals you promised to seek and stay true to him and his goal.”
