MSJC returns to the field, defeats Antelope Valley – San Bernardino Sun

The Mount San Jacinto College football team played the program opener for 665 days, and the Eagles beat Antelope Valley 23-13 in a non-conference game Saturday in San Jacinto.

The MSJC had to confiscate the opening opener against Riverside City College after five players tested positive for COVID-19. Saturday’s game was the first on the schedule since November 23, 2019.

Robert Coleman split the time in a quarterback, passing 141 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed to the team’s best 108 yards and seven touchdowns. Coleman led the MSJC in the second half of the first quarter with an 81-yard touchdown. Coleman joined David Vandenberg on a 10-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to help the Eagles extend their lead to 13-0.

Antelope Valley (1-2) rebounded, scoring twice before half-time and even scoring 13.

The MSJC (1-1) resumed their lead in safety in the middle of the third quarter. The Eagles then won in the second half of the fourth quarter when Coleman found Tariq Brown on a 46-yard touchdown.

Devan Friedland shared a snap with Coleman in the quarterback and completed 15 of 23 passes at 110 yards. Brown had five receptions at 89 yards and Cherod White added 89 yards with 18 carries.

Kamari Ross, Demond Young and Alonta Orange each intercepted the Eagles’ pass.

MSJC will play in Santa Anna on September 25.

POMONA-PITZER appears in a short time

As Pacific beat Pomona-Pitzer 35-31 out of conference on Saturday, Thai Haggis scored four seconds left with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kenion Harris.

Pomona-Pitzer (1-2) took a 31-28 lead with 2:48 left when Evan Fritz connected with Winhunter on a 21-yard touchdown pass. However, Sagehens was unable to maintain that lead as Pacific took 72 yards in 16 games.

The team traded touchdowns throughout the first half, with Pomona Pizzar taking a 28-24 halftime lead after Fritz hit Will Ladis with an 11-yard touchdown, leaving 2:45. Neither team scored in the third quarter.

Fritz completed 23 of 30 passes with 222 yards and two touchdowns, and also made the team’s top 45 yards and 16 touchdowns. Clark Baker threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Miles, and Colebury returned a 98-yard kickoff for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Pomona-Pitzer will welcome Willamette on September 25.
