Shawn Porter: I’m one of the best welterweights

The welterweight is preparing to meet Terence Crawford in November.

Shawn Porter thinks he should be considered one of the best, if not the best, at 147 pounds.

Porter has a chance to back that claim on November 20 when he takes on WBO Champion Terence Crawford in Las Vegas.

This is the opportunity to put a loss in 2019 to Errol Spence – the current IBF and WBC champion – to bed. Spence was set to face Manny Pacquiao but needed surgery for an eye problem, and doubts persist after being seriously injured in a car crash.

Crawford is currently undefeated, but Porter stressed Zenger news that he was always ready to fight the best contenders.

“The best thing about me is that I constantly fight and beat the best guys in the division,” Porter said.

“My mindset is to stay healthy, to keep getting in the ring with the best guys in the world and to perform at the best. Right now, in terms of opponent caliber and timing Terence Crawford is the pinnacle, it doesn’t get better than this.

“At one point it was Errol Spence, and obviously we know how our fight went. But due to [Spence’s] injuries sustained in the [car] accident and his eye [injury], it lessens the intensity of what could happen in a rematch between us.

“If you’re talking about anyone who’s considered the No.1 welterweight, there are things I’ve always shown that make me that No.1.

“When it comes to resilience and endurance, there’s no one in the division better than me. My whole thing has always been that “until I’m done with this I’m going to make the most of it”. My saying is, “Ride ’til the wheels fall off”. I don’t feel like my wheels are about to fall.
