Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a co-production between The call to the Assembly and Inside the room where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories from the past week, as well as results from other IU sports programs.
The offseason continues as several new information emerged this week. Inside The Hall produced a series on the top 25 players from the Big Ten conference which was the focus of the site this week.
Additionally, several recruiting stories have been posted with updated rankings from 247Sports and new information on several Hoosier targets. Finally, the NCAA made some rule changes and IU football had a disappointing weekend. We will conclude our 6-Banner as always with an overview of the performance of other IU sports.

Banner # 1 – Inside The Hall’s Top 25 Series
Inside The Hall and UMHoops hosted a five-day series of the Big Ten’s top 25 players for the coming year. It started on Monday with the players 21-25 and continued each following day with 16-20, 11-15, 6-10 and 1-5.
The only UI player to make the top 25 was Trayce Jackson-Davis at number 4, while Kofi Cockburn of Illinois was named the overall best player.
Similar to this, Jon Rothstein posted a ranking of his 25 best freshmen and Indiana newcomer Tamar Bates made the list.
Banner # 2 – New Recruitment Rankings Released by 247Sports
This week, 247Sports released its update recruitment rankings for the 2022 class.
Apart from Three IU hires Jalen Hood-Schifino to check in at number 24, Kaleb Banks at 94 and CJ Gunn at 129. The remaining target, Noah Clowney, arrives at 101.
Banner # 3 – Other Recruitment News
In addition to the updated rankings, several other recruiting information became known this week.
Hoosier 2023 target JaQualon Roberts, around the corner in Bloomington North, made an unofficial visit to IU over the weekend according to his twitter account. Another big 2023 hopeful in Jeremy Fears Jr. also visited this weekend according to his twitter account.
Also this week UI Free Prospect 2024 Paul McNeil Jr. and Tyler Tachman from Inside The Hall find some strengths of Hood-Schifino.
Banner # 4 – NCAA Announces Rule Changes
This week the NCAA announcement several new rules on the modernization track. The NCAA says “the new process allows for faster changes to outdated and unnecessary rules.”
The most notable information to come out of this is the extension of the authorization of the men’s and women’s basketball programs to up to two non-coaching staff to perform coaching duties during on-court activities until. to the 2021-2022 sports season due to COVID. However, the positions must have existed as of August 1 of last month.
Banner # 5 – Soccer Falls Into Showdown With Cincinnati
IU had their most anticipated football game in many years against the Bearcats. However, despite a sold-out crowd and a strong start, the Hoosiers were left with several crucial turnovers in the red zone and fell 38-24. Starting QB Michael Penix continues to struggle and was x-rayed after the game, but no further information has been given on a potential injury.
UI is now 1-2 on the year and a full recap of the game can be read here.
Banner # 6 – Hoosier Roundup
It has been a struggle so far for all UI sports this semester except men’s golf and women’s football as several disappointing results have occurred this week.
• Women’s soccer was the bright spot in IU sports this fall and to beat Kansas State 3-0 this week to finish out of conference is playing a solid 6-1-1. They also had a few players awarded by the Big Ten.
• Men’s golf is Fourth in their tournament with one day remaining, having finished a solid third in their opening tournament.
• Daniel Munie what tabbed defensive player of the week for men’s soccer. However, the team fell in their first Big Ten game against Rutgers. They have a disappointing 3-2-1 to start the season despite arriving at the national championship after sacking almost the entire squad from last year’s College Cup squad.
• Volleyball to beat Alabama A + M but then fell at Chicago State and Ole Miss to end a disappointing non-conference season at 6-6.
• Women’s golf finished 14th out of 16 teams in their season opener.
• Field hockey fell in Iowa to open the Big Ten game.
• Cross country finished second behind his great rival Purdue when they met.
• Baseball to beat John A Logan Community College in an exhibition game that mainly featured a whole new lineup from last year for the Hoosiers.
• Women’s basketball published the rest of their schedule.
• Struggle published their schedule.
• The Pfau Indiana Golf Course once again has received acknowledgement.
