Jarvis Landry will not need surgery to repair the MCL sprain he suffered on September 19 in Game 2 of the game with the Texans, but he is at risk of running out of time due to an injury for the first time in an eight-year career.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski at his regular Monday September 20 press conference announced that Landry was “week to week”. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted Landry will likely miss two to three games.
“I’ve spoken to him before,” Stefanski said. “He’s attacking his rehab, as you can imagine. No one likes to be hurt. But these guys are going to fight to fight and be with their teammates. I think Jarvis will be another example.
Landry, the emotional frontman of the Browns offense and their leader in receiving passes in 2018, ’19 and 2020, got his own response on Twitter to his situation:
“Every time I put on this corset someone will have to pay for it in the near future #Offline.”
Landry was injured on a pass from Baker Mayfield for a gain of 9 yards. He stayed on the pitch until coaches helped him retire.
Mayfield completed 18 of 20 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown after Landry was injured. He threw assists to nine players, including that of Landry.
So now the Browns are in “next man in place” mode, and the next man in place could be a really good receiver.
Stefanski wouldn’t say if Odell Beckham Jr. will be allowed to play against the Bears. Beckham was injured in the first game of Game 7 last season. He underwent left ACL knee surgery two weeks later on November 10, 2020. He’s made steady progress, but Beckham and the Browns’ medics decided he wasn’t ready to play against the Chiefs. in the first game or against the Texans.

Safety Grant Delpit, in a separate Zoom call with the media after Stefanski and running back Kareem Hunt, blurted out that Beckham will be back when asked what impact Landry’s loss would have on the team.
“Juice (Landry) is definitely a big key to our offense, a big key to our team,” said Delpit. “It’s going to be tough without him for a few weeks or whatever, but we have ‘O’ coming back. He’s definitely going to fill that role, be that missing piece. So I’m glad to see “O” back and pray for Juice.
“I know what it’s like to sit down. I know he wants to be there.
Delpit missed his entire 2020 rookie season recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon. He recovered from that setback, only to sustain a hamstring injury at training camp that forced him to sit on the first game in Kansas City.

“There’s only one Jarvis Landry,” said running back Kareem Hunt. “He’s a hell of a leader and a hell of a teammate. He brings it every time he steps onto the pitch.
Landry wasn’t the only casualty in the 31-21 win over the Texans. Linebacker Sione Takitaki is week-to-week with a hamstring injury.
Offensive lineman Chris Hubbard is improving, Stefanski said, but remains week to week with the triceps injury suffered in Game 1, which kept him from playing against the Texans.
Left tackle Jedrick Wills “isn’t any more uncomfortable,” Stefanski said, after being taken out of the roster in the second half on September 19. Wills sprained his left ankle against the Chiefs. The injury kept him from training last week, but he started against the Texans and withstood the pain for as long as he could.
