I would like to congratulate the Maine News Center (WCSH) for two recent initiatives. First, the regular “Check” segment is excellent. It checks to see if trending articles on social media and Google searches are accurate or just misinformation.
Second, “Truth” segments featuring various members of the Maine News Center team are welcome and long overdue in these difficult times. Reporting without an agenda is essential because the public deserves to know what is really going on at the global, national and local levels.
These initiatives are important because cable news and social media feed on unsubstantiated information, rumors and conspiracy theories. People want to believe in things that match their point of view and giving them “what they like” gets more ratings and sells more advertising. Rupert Murdoch and the Fox Machine do a great job of giving people what they want, but rest assured the motivation isn’t the truth – it’s the money.
