COVID in Fairfield schools, city vax rate: by the numbers

FAIRFIELD, CT – The coronavirus vaccination rate in Fairfield, as well as across the state and country, has slowed.

In Fairfield, 41,384 residents have been fully immunized as of Sept. 15, representing about 66.7 percent of the total population, according to the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Including those who have started their vaccine series but have not yet completed it, this brings the number to 43,951 residents, or 70.84% ​​of the population.

In Connecticut, 322,752 people have been partially vaccinated and 2,411,037 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as of September 17. That means 76.5% of the state’s population has received at least one injection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It’s clear that almost everyone in the state who qualifies for a jab and wants one, has gotten one. Most age groups across the state have barely gained a percentage point in new vaccinations per week, in recent weeks of DPH data.

The fastest growing segment of the state’s vaccinated population are school-aged children. Residents aged 12 to 15 have seen their vaccinations increase by about 2% over the past week.

With the start of the 2021-2022 school year, all Fairfield Kindergarten-12 public and private schools are once again required to report any student or staff who test positive for COVID-19. The tests may or may not be done at school. Some schools offer the testing, but testing is often done outside of school by the person’s health care provider or at a community COVID-19 testing site. A pupil is any pupil enrolled in school, regardless of the city in which he lives.
