– After about 60 minutes of lockdown, students at East Wake High School in Wendell returned to class at around 11:20 a.m. Some students chose to leave for the day with parents who, alerted to the threat, lined up in front of the Rolesville Road campus. .

The school was briefly on a “code red” after a threat was shared on social media. A parent sent WRAL News a photo from SnapChat in the air that showed a gun and the words “Eastwake get ready.”

Wake County Sheriff’s Deputies surrounded the school to help with security and divert traffic from the campus, a spokesperson said.

Classes have resumed as planned at East Wake. “Law enforcement officials have determined that our campus is safe for normal operations,” wrote principal Stacy Alston in a message to parents.

Additional law enforcement and security officers will remain on campus for the remainder of the week, and extracurricular activities will be canceled on Tuesday to allow for a second in-depth security sweep, Alston said.
