NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Film Office announced that filming in the city and the issuance of film permissions will begin on Monday, September 27, 2021.
“The number of big budget film productions we have hosted over the past three years has solidified the city as the fourth major production hub in the country. Despite the pandemic and storms, 2021 has been a banner year for cinema, with the city hosting $ 753 million in production in the first three quarters, ”said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “My administration is committed to strengthening our local economy and to continuing to lead with a long-term vision for the development of the film industry beyond the initial recovery, which includes efforts to attract businesses to film infrastructure and production of workforce training programs.
“One of these programs was funded by the Louisiana Entertainment Division, which provided the New Orleans Video Access Center with its first ever Louisiana Workforce Training Award of $ 225,000. Entertainment Fund. This is funded by a 2% contribution from film tax credits. attributed to productions and goes directly to supporting workers. As we continue to move forward with more innovative approaches and cultivate our relationships with the film industry and its workers, everyone will see that New Orleans is a world class place to do business. ”
In addition to facilitating film permits for the city, the New Orleans Film Office offers continuing entry-level workforce development training opportunities in partnership with NOVAC. Due to Hurricane Ida, the Bureau is not facilitating any training at this time, but hopes to support them over the next month. When Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana, the city hosted a record number of film productions, including the Netflix film “We Have a Ghost”, Disney’s “UltraViolet and the Black Scorpion” and the feature film “Haunted Mansion,” AMC’s television series. “Interview with a Vampire”, the NBC / Universal feature film “Renfield” and the limited series “The Thing About Pam”, the NBC film “Killing It”, the Epix television series “Voodoo Project” and the series limited Apple TV “Hans Bubby”. A new Netflix project, “The Killers” starring Michael Fassbinder, is set to begin filming in late fall.
“The Film Office worked closely with the city’s productions to make sure they could resume filming. We are so lucky to have a full power restoration and to have suffered minimal flooding due to the new state-of-the-art dike system that has allowed each of the productions to return to New Orleans ” , said Carroll Morton, director of the movie New Orleans.
As of August, 100 film, television and documentary projects had spent $ 753 million in the New Orleans area. Louisiana’s successful film tax credit program is attractive to the industry, but the city’s assets are the biggest draw for productions. New Orleans’ unique architecture, diversity of locations, local culture, movie studios, talent, movie-related businesses, as well as our union base of 2,000 members, have made us a destination of main shoot.
