Under the theme of the Starry Night, the annual Hommage aux Muses awards ceremony and artistic benefit gala will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 8 at the historic Yuma Theater and adjacent galleries of the Yuma Art Center.

Tribute to the Muses, considered the biggest night of the year for the Yuma Art Center, has expanded to four award categories. The main award, also known as the Tribute of the Muses, honors an outstanding member of the Yuma arts community who has demonstrated exemplary dedication and excellence in the arts. Previous winners have included artists, performers, educators, advocates and patrons.

Besides:

  • The Helios Prize is awarded to the best newcomer to the artistic community.
  • The Odyssey Prize is awarded to an exceptional organization, company or group.
  • The Apollo Prize is awarded to an outstanding artistic educator.

The ceremony will take place in the historic Yuma Theater, 254 S. Main St., followed by the Gala in the Galleries. Participants are encouraged to dress in formal attire or according to the theme.

Tickets to attend the entire event are $ 25 each, and all proceeds will be donated to arts and culture programming. The gala will feature live music and entertainment, heavy appetizers, signature libations and a silent art auction. To buy tickets in line (the link is available on the city’s website, yumaaz.gov).

The theme of the Starry Night is a tribute to artist Vincent Van Gogh, explained Lindsay Benacka, head of the Arts and Culture program. “One of our goals with this theme is to recognize the important role the arts play in our mental health and the power they have to tell our collective and individual stories. “

The community nominated candidates earlier this year. The award recipients are selected by the Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission and past winners of the Tribute to the Muses.
