ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – (AP) – Rays veteran Kevin Kiermaier recovered a data card that fell from Toronto wide receiver Alejandro Kirk’s bracelet in Tampa Bay’s 6-4 win on Monday night and refused to return it to the Blue Jays.
Kiermaier was called back by sliding into the house during the sixth inning and saw a strip of paper lying beside him after the game. He casually picked it up and drove it back to the Tampa Bay shelter. , where he quietly handed it to Paul Hoover, the club’s field coordinator.
“I’ve never even watched it, I’ll say that,” Kiermaier told Sportnet ahead of Tuesday night’s game. “But at the same time, I’m not going to drop it or give it back.”
Sportsnet reported that Toronto sent a bat boy to the shelter from the Rays to request the return of the card. Tampa Bay did not return the card, which likely included information about the Blue Jays’ plans to pitch at the Rays hitters.
