The US Senate voted Tuesday 52-45 to confirm Las Cruces lawyer Margaret Strickland as the new federal judge for the New Mexico district in Las Cruces.

Strickland received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and his law degree from New York University Law School, according to a press release by Senators on Tuesday.

She began her legal career at the New Mexico Public Defender’s law firms, where she worked from 2006 to 2011, according to the release, and dealt with both civil rights and criminal cases before the state and federal courts as a partner of Las Cruces.
