DANVILLE – With the continued increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Geisinger is updating its policies for in-person visits as part of our commitment to protect the safety of our patients, visitors and employees.
From Wednesday September 22, Geisinger’s updated visitation policy will take effect for all hospitals and hospitals.
In all hospitals, the changes include:
– Admitted patients will be entitled to two designated visitors for the duration of a hospital stay, which means that visitors cannot interact with other visitors.
– Designated visitors will receive an identification bracelet that they must wear throughout the patient’s stay.
– Emergency room patients will be entitled to only one visitor for the duration of their stay once the patient is in the treatment area.
– Emergency room patients who test positive for COVID-19 or who are suspected of having COVID-19 are not allowed to visit.
In all ambulatory care settings, the changes include:
– No visits are allowed during outpatient appointments, unless it is medically necessary.
– Outpatient appointments include certain surgeries, mental or behavioral health, primary care and others.
– A medical necessity for a visitor includes when the patient is under the age of 18 or has a physical, intellectual, developmental or cognitive impairment, a communication barrier or a behavior problem.
Geisinger encourages other means of visiting a loved one in the hospital, including phone calls and virtual tours via Facetime, Skype, or other means.
