VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University is once again among the top colleges and universities in the country, according to the 2022 ranking of the best colleges recently released by US News and World Report.

VSU’s appearance among the top college rankings of US News and World Report reflects its unwavering commitment to creating a campus culture focused on individual student success, providing students with broad transformational and experiential learning opportunities, and increasing regional impact by serving as a resource and innovative leader for South Georgia.

This is the 37e year US News and World Report released its annual ranking of the best colleges. This year, the publication assessed 1,466 bachelor’s degree-granting institutions of higher education in the United States on 17 measures of academic quality, including graduation and retention rates, social mobility, academic reputation of undergraduate, student-faculty ratio, average alumni donation rate, graduate debt, and student selectivity. VSU was recognized in three categories: Undergraduate Nursing Programs, Undergraduate Business Programs, and Top Social Mobility Interpreters.

Undergraduate Nursing Programs

VSU came in at No. 221 on US News and World Report’s 2022 list of best undergraduate nursing programs.

This is the first time that US News and World Report has published rankings for schools offering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and VSU has been ranked among the top third of all programs across the country.

Dr. Mark Reinhardt, Associate Dean of the School of Nursing at VSU, said he contributes this honor to two things, “the exceptional, compassionate and selfless faculty who give so much to our students and our top notch students. here at VSU. I am privileged to be part of this great team.

VSU’s undergraduate nursing students have played a vital role in the current global health crisis. They continue to answer the call and do their part to support COVID-19 vaccination and testing efforts in Valdosta-Lowndes County, alongside their nursing faculty and staff at South Georgia Medical Center to provide this essential community service.

Because the VSU School of Nursing is committed to serving as a resource for healthcare in South Georgia, these students are able to gain valuable and real-life experience while meeting the needs of underserved populations while throughout the year. Through their diverse clinical experiences and volunteer efforts, VSU nursing students go where they are needed most and help create healthier communities.

VSU offers a Traditional Baccalaureate in Nursing and Accelerated Baccalaureate in Nursing for students with a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field.

Undergraduate Business Programs

VSU came in at # 363 on US News and World Report’s 2022 list of best undergraduate business education programs.

“The Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in commerce and accounting,” said Dr. Karen Pafford Roland, Dean of the college. “Less than 5% of business programs and less than 2% of accounting programs worldwide achieve this recognition. With an emphasis on dynamic and relevant courses, these programs prepare students for the challenges of a changing global business environment.

“The Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration is delighted that its commitment to quality education is recognized by US News and World Report.”

VSU offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Health Care Administration, International Business, Management and Marketing.

Top Performers on social mobility

VSU came in at No. 113 on US News and World Report’s 2022 list of top colleges and top performers on social mobility, up from 119 the year before.

This ranking recognizes schools that welcome graduate students with exceptional financial needs. About half of VSU’s incoming students each year qualify for the Federal Pell Grant program.

“It is an honor to be on this prestigious list,” said Ryan Hogan, director of the VSU admissions office. “As a school in South Georgia, many of our students come from small rural communities and the only way for them to come to our institution is through the Federal Pell Grant.

“As a former VSU student, also from a rural community, I think it shows the rest of the country how such an incredible institution is at Valdosta State University. The support we provide to students from the moment they express their interest, right through to graduation and through to their professional career, sets VSU apart as a higher education institution.

Valdosta State University is a comprehensive public university that knows there is no one-size-fits-all approach to personal and professional growth. That’s why VSU has created a unique education model focused on one-on-one mentoring and support. Each student comes to VSU with their own ideas and inspiration, and over the course of four years they develop the communication skills, connections, and critical thinking to turn that inspiration into an achievement of their own. The result is a powerful and positive community of Blazers who find true happiness and fulfillment in their personal and professional lives and use it to empower the people and places closest to them.
