Domino’s Pizza Inc. (NYSE: DPZ), the world’s largest pizza company, and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) are joining forces to bring fire safety messages to homes across the country.

During Fire Prevention Week (October 3-9), participating Domino’s stores across the United States will highlight this year’s campaign theme, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety,” with flyers about pizza boxes. The flyers will include important fire safety tips, such as educating everyone about the sounds made by smoke detectors, what those sounds mean and how to respond to them.

Customers who order at participating Domino’s stores in the United States during Fire Prevention Week may also be surprised when their delivery arrives accompanied by a fire truck. If the smoke detectors in the house work, the pizza is free. If smoke detectors don’t work, firefighters will replace batteries or install fully functioning alarms.

“Each year, Domino’s stores look forward to partnering with their local fire departments and the NFPA to deliver fire safety messages in exciting and unexpected ways,” said Jenny Fouracre, spokesperson for Domino. . “This is the 14th consecutive year that Domino’s has brought the program to neighborhoods across the United States.”

In a fire, a few seconds can be the difference between a safe escape and a tragedy, ”said Lorraine Carli, vice president of outreach and advocacy for the NFPA. “This is why it is so important that everyone in the house understands the sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and knows exactly how to react. We hope to raise awareness of these potentially life-saving messages through our partnership with Domino’s. “

Domino’s and NFPA Fire Safety Tips

  • When smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) alarms sound, respond immediately by leaving the house as quickly as possible.
  • If your alarm starts ringing, it may mean that the batteries are low and need to be replaced. If the alarm continues to sound after replacing the batteries or if the alarm is more than 10 years old, it is time to replace the alarm.
  • Test all smoke and CO detectors once a month. Press the test button to make sure the alarm is working.
  • If there is someone in your household who is deaf or hard of hearing, install a bed shaker and strobe alarms that will alert that person to shoot.
  • Differentiate between the sound of a smoke alarm and the sound of a carbon monoxide alarm – three beeps for smoke alarms; four beeps for carbon monoxide alarms.
