In September, there will likely be more reported cases of COVID-19 than every month in Ohio except three since the start of the pandemic.
Plus, not counting today, September had more cases than May, June, July and August combined.
The state began to see a spike in cases in mid-July, largely caused by the delta variant infecting the unvaccinated.
As of mid-July, the state had an average of about 230 new cases reported daily. It was until 6,600 Wednesday.
As of September, the month had 186,542 cases.
From May to August in Ohio, there were a total of 148,588 cases, with August leading the way with 91,623.
Ohio has not seen such high cases since the peak in November, December and January.
There were 205,366 cases reported in November, 279,317 in December and 195,412 in January.
September will end very close to January’s number, but it is highly unlikely to exceed it.
It would take 8,870 cases reported today to match January’s number. Ohio has only exceeded that amount once this month – 9,019 on September 10.
However, September has a higher daily average number of cases, except for today, than in January. In the first 29 days of this month, September recorded an average of 6,432.5 daily cases, while the January average for the 31 full days of that month was 6,303.6.
