Gerald A. Kozlowski, 83, of Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk, NY, died on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Brooks-TLC Hospital in Dunkirk.
He was born in Dunkirk, NY on September 13, 1938, the son of the late Stanley and Tillie (Cyganowski) Kozlowski.
He was a graduate of the Saint-Hyacinthe school and the industrial high school in Dunkirk. He then served in the United States Army from November 1961 until his honorable release in November 1963. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Carol A. Maslach, on November 30, 1963. He was employed by True Temper Corporation for 29 1/2 years until plant closure. He retired from BFI / Steri-cycle in Dunkirk.
A longtime resident of Dunkirk, Gerald was a devoted member of Blessed Mary Angela Parish, Saint-Hyacinthe Church. He also competed in bowling leagues throughout his life.
Gerald was a life member of the 1st Ward Falcon Club, World War II Veterans and also a member of the Dom Polski Club and the Dunkirk Senior Citizens.
Truly devoted to his family, “Jerry” has been seen frequently transporting his grandchildren to school and extracurricular activities. He loved to attend all of their concerts, recitals and ball games. He also enjoyed traveling with the elderly on buses, spending time at the casino, horse racing, and watching the New York Mets and Buffalo Bills. He was eager to make his daily tour of Dunkirk to the cemetery, to the point, to the pier and to stop at Matt’s News.
Before his wife’s death, he also supported her in all of her endeavors, including helping with the cooking and packaging of pierogies. Recently, he has enjoyed visits from special friends: Bill and Diane Berek and their longtime friend, Richard Kopliner, and phone calls from his cousin, Joe Kluck. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a calm man but who loved to laugh with his friends and family. He was a constant support for his family.
Survivors include his three daughters: Lisa Kozlowski, Laura (David) Beehler and Allison Kozlowski, all of Dunkirk; six grandchildren: Kiara Kozlowski-Boyd, Amari Carter, Jessica Beehler, James Beehler, Marcel Carter and Neveah Carter; one great-grandson, Jonathan Alicea-Bonilla Jr .; brother, Robert (Betty) Kozlowski; and his sister, Loraine Koscielny. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, William Maslach and Richard (Janet) Maslach; sister-in-law, Sandra Tapasto; and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carol, 53, who died on December 10, 2016; a brother and sister-in-law Richard and Patricia Kozlowski; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Ed Wlodarek; and brother-in-law, Raymond Koscielny.
Call hours will be Friday, October 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday October 2 at 10 am in Blessed Mary Angela Parish, St. Hyacinth Church. Interment will be in Saint-Hyacinthe cemetery.
