On Thursday, the parking lots and neighborhood streets around the fairgrounds were busy on the first day of the Tulsa State Fair.
Richard Markham said he normally takes the shuttle to the fair, but since it was not working this year, he decided to head to the fair grounds early to avoid the crowds and busy parking lots.
“I loved using it. It’s pretty convenient where I used to live in the area, and then I moved a little closer to here. So it’s much easier for me to use the parking lot. Getting there early is the best thing to do, Markham said.
He said he parked on-site at the fairgrounds where parking costs $ 10 or $ 20 depending on the terrain. Chris Ruyes said he was sticking to the free parking lot, although it is further away.
“A lot of walking. One of those years where you definitely walked a lot,” Ruyes said.
If you plan to park on neighborhood streets, be sure to check the no-parking signs, as Tulsa police have said they will tow cars parked in these areas. The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said there was no shuttle this year as they were preparing to receive more cars in the area than normal.
“And with that, there is the increased risk of car break-ins, vandalism and things like that. So what we would tell people is not to make it easy by leaving your purse on the road. front seat or leaving a gun under the driver’s side seat, ”Sheriff Vic Regalado said.
Sheriff Regalado said to put everything in the trunk of your car before you get to the fairgrounds and to make sure your car doors are locked.
“Because usually burglars are there to steal things and if they can’t see anything they’re not going to waste time,” Sheriff Regalado said.
He said if your car is vandalized or broken into during the fun fair, call the Tulsa Sheriff’s Office. If your car is parked on neighborhood streets and is vandalized, call the TPD.
