State Police attended a student’s home at Griswold Public School for a welfare check on Wednesday afternoon after the student sent a friend and classmate regarding complaints text messages.
According to the state police public information office, officers from E Troop in Montville attended the student’s home shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police decided the student needed a medical evaluation, so the student was taken to an area hospital.
State police were “informed by a city school security officer that a friend of the minor in question had received text messages from the minor, which raised concerns for his well-being,” wrote Private First Class Sarah Salerno in an email. “This incident is classified as a non-criminal medical appeal, and no further information has been allowed to be released.”
Griswold Public Schools Superintendent Sean McKenna said the administration and director of school safety were working with police to “assess, monitor and resolve the situation.”
“We are happy to report that there are no credible threats against student staff and / or our schools,” McKenna wrote in an email. “Due to the Education Rights and Protection of Family Privacy Act (FERPA), we are not free to disclose or discuss other details that could potentially violate student privacy and of the family.”
