Record number of COVID-19 cases reported in Maine since the start of the pandemic

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – The Maine CDC reported 926 new cases of coronavirus in Maine on Thursday, a single-day high since the start of the pandemic.

No new deaths are reported.

The total number of cases is now approaching 90,000.

Nearly 5,000 new doses of COVID-19 vaccine were distributed on Wednesday. These figures include booster injections.

Maine has one of the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the country.

64.91% of Mainers are now fully vaccinated against the virus, compared to 55% nationally.

Penobscot County has the highest number of new cases on Thursday with 145.

Kennebec County has 105 new cases.

Somerset has 70 more cases, 36 in Knox, 49 in Hancock and 28 in Washington.

Cumberland County has now passed the 20,000 mark for the total number of cases.

At the latest report, 226 people are in hospital, 71 people in intensive care and 28 on ventilators.
