“We have recently seen an increase in bookings and this is due to the recent lifting of government travel restrictions,” said Kate O’Hara, UK Commercial Director for the Port of Tyne. “We are very confident that the future will see continued growth for the Port of Tyne as we continue to attract new cruise lines to our shores.”

O’Hara said consumers are looking to 2022 and making reservations in advance for seasons to come.

“There is a huge pent-up demand and many cruise lines have launched their routes earlier than usual to seize this opportunity,” she noted.

According to O’Hara, Port of Tyne’s investment in extending Northumbrian Quay has provided cruise passengers with a larger operational area and better access for stores.

“This was completed in March 2020 and it offers a great improvement to the facilities available to cruise lines and significantly improves the passenger experience. Coaches can now drive directly to the dock for the convenience of passengers embarking or disembarking in transit. The whole turnaround process is now much easier to facilitate and more efficient with our improved dock area, ”she said.
