Scarlett Johansson vs. Disney is over.
On Thursday, the actress and Disney settled their dispute over Johansson’s lawsuit against the company in July. The lawsuit alleged that Disney had broken its contract by releasing “Black Widow,” a Marvel movie starring the actress, on Disney + on the day of its theatrical release.
Johansson said in a statement Thursday that she was “happy to have resolved our differences.”
“I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have really enjoyed my creative relationship with the team,” she said. “I look forward to continuing our collaboration in the years to come. “
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Alan Bergman, president of Disney Studios Content, said Disney appreciates Johansson’s “contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and looks forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including the ‘Tower of Terror’ of Disney “.
The suit alleged that putting “Black Widow” on Disney + reduced Johansson’s financial stake in the film because she had agreed that her salary would be based, in large part, on the film’s box office.
Disney responded in July by saying “there is no merit in this deposit.” The studio added at the time that the company “had fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of” Black Widow “on Disney + with Premier Access significantly improved its ability to earn additional compensation by over the $ 20 million she has received. to date. “
Johansson vs. Disney was a flashpoint in an evolving Hollywood. The lawsuit came at a pivotal time as the industry grapples with questions about how audiences will consume entertainment in the future and how those who create it will be compensated.
“Black Widow” grossed $ 80 million at the North American box office in its opening weekend. The film also grossed $ 60 million worldwide on Disney + this weekend, according to the studio.
