The Mentor Planning Commission recently approved Classic Hyundai’s final site plan for the expansion and redevelopment of its facilities located at 8460 boul. Tyler, between Classic Mazda and Classic Cadillac.
According to a report from city staff, the proposed expansion includes modifications to the exterior of the building and the sales area, as well as to the maintenance and spare parts department. Classic Hyundai, part of Classic Auto Group, intends to build a new customer lounge between the existing showroom and the service area, which will have space for televisions and a new beverage bar.
Kurt Hanson, a representative for Classic Hyundai, told the committee at its September 30 meeting that the building’s existing main entrance and vestibule will collapse and get a whole new look during renovations.
As part of the re-imagery process, the current design of the blue stripes around the front and sides of the building will also be removed, Hanson said, and the new design will include clear glass curtain wall panels and metal stripes. modern blacks near the roof.
“The whole facade of the building will be totally changed,” he said.
Four additional offices will also be built at the west end of the Classic Hyundai showroom. Adjacent to the offices, plans also include a new two-bay vehicle delivery garage.
Regarding the parts and service area, the revisions include an addition to the rear of the building that will house six new service bays, tool storage and an area for used oils and fluids. A new retail bay area will also be added near the entrance to the vehicle service area.
“Between the expansion of the rooms and the expansion of the workshop, it’s just under 7,000 square feet that we’re adding to the building over there,” Hanson told the panel.
