Albany County Director Daniel P. McCoy provided the latest report on the county’s progress on vaccination and controlling the spread of the coronavirus. Yesterday, 71.5% of all residents of Albany County received at least the first dose of the vaccine and 65.6% were fully immunized. The first-dose vaccination rate for the county’s population aged 18 and over is now 82.6%. County Director McCoy announced that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Albany County is now 28,937 so far, with 110 new positive cases identified as of yesterday. The county’s five-day average of daily positive new cases is now 92. Please note that our overall case count will fluctuate as CommCare records are transferred in and out of the county. Albany County’s most recent seven-day positive rate percentage average has now fallen to 3.8% and the capital region’s average rate has remained at 3.7%.
Of the new daily COVID cases identified in the county, 23 had close contact with positive cases, 81 had no clear sources of infection at this time, one said they had traveled out of state and five are health workers or residents of collective living environments. There are now 565 active cases in the county, up from 552 yesterday. The number of people in mandatory quarantine has increased from 910 to 934. So far, 90,442 people have completed quarantine so far. Of those who completed quarantine, 28,372 of them tested positive and recovered – an increase of 94 more recoveries.
The county executive reported that there had been five new hospitalizations since yesterday, and that there are now a total of 38 county residents currently hospitalized with COVID – a net increase of one from the last update. up to date. There are now 13 patients in intensive care units, down from eleven previously. Sadly, there are two new COVID deaths to report – two people in their 60s. Residents can also receive free Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekly at the Albany County Department of Health, 175 Green Street. The population of 12+ is currently eligible. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. 12 to 15 year olds must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A follow-up clinic for the second dose will be scheduled at the time of the first dose appointment.
